CHICAGO — Chicago's top prosecutor has been subpoenaed to appear in court by a retired appellate judge who's pushing for a special prosecutor to investigate the handling of the case against actor Jussie Smollett.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Sheila O'Brien also subpoenaed Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx's top deputy and requested that Smollett appear at a hearing on her request.
Foxx was harshly criticized when her office announced it was dropping charges against Smollett that accused the black, gay actor of staging a racist and anti-gay attack on himself in downtown Chicago.
Foxx has defended the decision to drop the charges and says she welcomes an independent investigation.

Streaming Game of Thrones is one of the things we do for love.

Yes, going into the weekend was all about Avengers: Endgame -- but coming out of it, we're back to the final season of Game of Thrones. That's because there are only 4 episodes left, and the Battle for Winterfell is upon us. And that's a big change from the first 2 episodes, which were all about... talking. Our heroes experienced reunions, first meetings and revelations aplenty in the first episode, titled Winterfell. And in the second, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, there were more reunions... and revelations, plus plenty of drinking, singing and hanky-panky.
Episode 3 looks like less talk, more fight. The living are finally all assembled for the coming fight against the dead. And if this is indeed the Battle for Winterfell, it's rumored to be incredibly bloody and could end with some of those living, well, not so alive. Here's the episode 3 trailer.
So how can you stream all the action in Westeros? You'll need a way to watch HBO. Thankfully, there are plenty of easy ways to subscribe, even if you don't have cable, starting with HBO Now and HBO Go. Note that CNET may get a share of revenue from the sale of the services featured on this page.

Game of Thrones season 8 schedule
This last season will comprise six, supersize episodes. The premiere has the shortest runtime of the season at 54 minutes. Episode 2 is 58 minutes, and the final four are each roughly 80 minutes. It will all be over -- sniff -- by mid-May.
Plan to clear out your Sunday evenings at 9 p.m. (8 p.m. Central) in the US, from now until the middle of May. Here's the schedule:
Episode 1: Winterfell (54 minuntes; now available on demand)
Episode 2: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (58 minutes; now available on demand)
If you're already a subscriber to HBO as part of a cable or satellite TV package, you get HBO Go for free. It lets you stream Game of Thrones along with the rest of HBO's shows on supported phones, tablets, connected TVs and gaming consoles. Not only can you watch all seven past seasons of GoT with HBO Go, but you can livestream the new episodes as they air on HBO.
As opposed to the free streaming add-on mentioned above, HBO Now is a standalone subscription to HBO -- no cable or satellite TV subscription required.
It costs $15 a month and lets you watch HBO via the HBO Now app or in a browser at HBONow.com. The HBO Now app is available on a number of devices, including mobile devices, smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Roku. As with HBO Go, you can steam the new episodes live on Sunday nights, the same time that they air on HBO.
You can add HBO to four of the TV streaming services below for an additional monthly charge. If you're a GoT fan and also a subscriber to Sling TV or YouTube TV, then I'm sorry to report that you're out of luck: neither service offers HBO. Here are four that do.

Prime members can add HBO for $15 a month. A Prime membership costs $119 a year.
Game of Thrones in the UK, Australia and elsewhere
Game of Thrones, according to HBO, airs in all but four countries around the world -- but not necessarily on HBO itself. In the UK, for example, HBO shows are on Sky Atlantic and Sky's online services Sky Go and Now TV. In Australia, Game of Thrones airs on TV and online on Foxtel. In both countries the show airs at the same time as in the US (i.e., early Monday), and is repeated on Monday night.
And for the record, HBO restricts the use of VPNs used to stream any of the above services from outside the US.
The universe belongs to Marvel. "Avengers: Endgame" shattered the record for biggest opening weekend with an estimated $350 million in ticket sales domestically and $1.2 billion globally, reaching a new pinnacle in the blockbuster era that the comic-book studio has come to dominate.
The "Avengers" finale far exceeded even its own gargantuan expectations, according to studio estimates Sunday. The movie had been forecast to open between $260 million and $300 million in U.S. and Canadian theaters, but moviegoers turned out in such droves that "Endgame" blew past the previous record of $257.7 million, set last year by "Avengers: Infinity War" when it narrowly surpassed "The Force Awakens."
"Endgame" was just as enormous overseas. Worldwide, it obliterated the previous record of $640.5 million, also set by "Infinity War." ("Infinity War" didn't open in China, the world's second largest movie market, until two weeks after its debut.) "Endgame" set a new weekend record in China, too, where it made $330.5 million.
In one fell swoop, "Endgame" has already made more than movies like "Skyfall," ''Aquaman" and "The Dark Knight Rises" grossed in their entire runs, not accounting for inflation.
Alan Horn, Disney chairman, credited Marvel Studios and its president, Kevin Feige, for challenging "notions of what is possible at the movie theater."
"This weekend's monumental success is a testament to the world they've envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world," Horn said in a statement.
To accommodate demand, the Walt Disney Co. released "Endgame" in more theaters — 4,662 in the U.S. and Canada — than any opening before. Advance ticketing services set new records. Early ticket buyers crashed AMC's website. And starting Thursday, some theaters even stayed open 72 hours straight.
"We've got some really tired staff," said John Fithian, president and chief executive of the National Association of Theater Owners. "I talked to an exhibitor in Kansas who said, 'I've never sold out a 7 a.m. show on Saturday morning before,' and they were doing it all across their circuit."
Not working in the film's favor was its lengthy running time: 161 minutes. But theaters dedicated more screens to "Endgame" than any movie before it to satiate the frenzy around Joe and Anthony Russo's film, one which ties together the "Avengers" storyline as well as the previous 21 releases of the Marvel "cinematic universe" begun with 2008's "Iron Man."
For an industry dogged by uncertainty over the growing role of streaming, the weekend was a mammoth display of the movie theater's lucrative potency. Fithian called it possibly "the most significant moment in the modern history of the movie business."
"We're looking at more than 30 million American and more than 100 million global guests that experienced 'Endgame' on the big screen in one weekend," Fithian said. "The numbers are just staggering."
Further boosting the results for "Endgame" were good reviews; it currently ranks as 96% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, the best rating for any Marvel movie aside from "Black Panther."
If there was any shadow to the weekend for the theatrical business, it was in just how reliant theaters have grown on one studio: Disney.
Disney now holds all but one of the top 12 box-office openings of all time. (Universal's "Jurassic World" is the lone exception.) The studio is poised for a record-breaking year, with releases including "Aladdin," ''Toy Story 2," ''The Lion King," ''Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" and "Frozen 2" on the horizon.
Following its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Disney is expected to account for at least 40% of domestic box-office revenue in 2019, a new record of market share. The company's "Captain Marvel" — positioned as a kind of Marvel lead-in to "Endgame" — also rose to No. 2 on the weekend, eight weeks after it opened.
But theater owners regularly speak of a "halo effect" around a movie like "Endgame." Such sensations draw in new moviegoers and expose millions to a barrage of movie trailers.
An enormous hit was much needed for a box office that, coming into the weekend, was lagging 16% of the pace of last year's ticket sales, according to Comscore. "Endgame" moved the needle a little, but the boost was less since "Infinity War" opened on the same weekend in 2018.
No other new wide release dared to open against "Endgame." The guessing game will now shift to just how much higher "Endgame" can go. Given its start, it's likely to rival the top three worldwide grossers: "The Force Awakens" ($2.068 billion in 2015), "Titanic ($2.187 billion in 1997) and "Avatar" ($2.788 in 2009).
(We’ve got some spoilers here “Avengers: Endgame.” Not, like, the hugest spoilers, but this is about a scene near the end of the movie.)
We’re still largely in the dark about what’s next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after “Avengers: Endgame.” Sure, we know about “Spider-Man: Far From Home” in July, but the schedule is empty after that event though Marvel Studios is camped on a whole bunch of dates over the next several years. But “Endgame” does contain a couple, mm, forward-looking nuggets near the end, the biggest one coming from Thor (Chris Hemsworth) when he’s deciding what to do next after all this madness.
As “Avengers: Endgame” is wrapping up, one moment of sorely-needed levity after so many gut-punches comes when Thor leaves New Asgard on Earth and hitches a ride to parts unknown with the Guardians of the Galaxy. As they get ready to depart, Thor jokingly refers to the group as the “Asgardians of the Galaxy,” leading to a funny exchange with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) about who really leads the team.
While the name “Asgardians of the Galaxy” in “Avengers: Endgame” mainly served as a fun pun — and probably also to set up Thor as a full on Guardian in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” — in the comics it’s actually an existing superhero team, and the reference could be hinting at a fun new expansion of the Guardians.
Created by Cullen Bunn and Matteo Lolli, the Asgardians of the Galaxy is a team of, yes, Asgardian (or Asgard-adjacent) characters that debuted last summer in the first issue of their own ongoing self-titled series.
Formed after the break-up of the Guardians of the Galaxy during Marvel’s “Infinity Countdown” storyline — way too complicated to sum up here, but one thing of note is that Star Lord became the guardian of the Power Stone, sort of — the Asgardians come together to fill the “team of powerful space-faring heroes willing to get their hands dirty saving the universe” job vacancy.
Good thing too, because the villain Nebula had just forced the dwarves of Nidavellir to make her a powerful Asgardian weapon, then killed all but one of them. And then she ripped the fingernails and toenails off their corpses to make a fleet of Naglfar ships.
Which is where the Asgardians of the Galaxy come in. They’re assembled by Thor’s long-lost sister Angela (herself a former member of the Guardians), who recruits:
– Brunnhilde, AKA Valkyrie, the powerful Asgardian warrior who previously served with The Defenders and The Secret Avengers among other groups, who currently shares this plane of existence with:
– Annabelle Riggs. It’s complicated, but basically the same situation Thor has had with his human hosts. In addition to being able to switch places with Valkyrie as needed, Annabelle is also a gifted scientist.
– Kevin Masterson, AKA Thunderstrike. The son of Thor’s former host, Eric Masterson, he uses an enchanted mace that grants him Thor-adjacent powers.
– Skurge the Executioner. The former Asgardian supervillain-turned-hero who recently escaped from the afterlife.
– Throg, the Frog of Thunder. Formerly a human named Simon Walterson, Throg was turned into an actual frog by a vengeful witch. He moved into a frog kingdom in Central Park, and through some wacky adventures came into possession of a tiny piece of Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, which he shaped into his own weapon, Frogjolnir — which grants him superpowers like Thor’s.
– The Destroyer. A walking, talking suit of remote-controlled armor — that is secretly being operated by:
– Kid Loki. The reincarnation of Loki who isn’t a villain, but is still the God of Mischief and as untrustworthy as someone can be and still be considered basically good.
Also, fun fact: they fly around in a space ship powered by a fragment of the bifrost.
They’ve had quite a few crazy adventures in their still-ongoing series, and are currently mixed up in Marvel’s “War of the Realms” crossover event.
Of course, we have no idea if name-dropping the team was anything more than a fun joke after some very, very intense “Endgame” moments. But if some version of the team does appear in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” — or (somebody get Taika Waititi on the phone) their own spinoff movie — it’ll be very different from the comics.
Not just because Thor isn’t a member of the Asgardians of the Galaxy in the comics. In the movies, Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson, doesn’t have a human alter ego, and is also currently the ruler of Asgard, poor Skurge (played by Karl Urban) sacrificed himself to save the remaining Asgardian civilians at the end of “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor destroyed the Destroyer at the end of the first “Thor” movie, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is also dead and so far hasn’t been resurrected as a teenager, and there’s no version of Thunderstrike yet.
Also, Nebula (played by Karen Gillan) is a hero now, and a full-on member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. And most criminally, there’s no Throg.
But you know what? It’s never too late to bring a frog with Thor’s powers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Seriously, Marvel, get on that.
Since we haven’t heard anything about a fourth “Thor” movie, and with Thor joining the Guardians and Valkyrie leading the surviving Asgardians, it seems like a distinct possibility that the third “Guardians of the Galaxy” could incorporate the Asgardians in general rather than just Thor. But with returning director James Gunn tied up with DC’s “Suicide Squad” for a while, the next “Guardians” movie is probably a long way off. Which leaves us entirely too much time to speculate about what it means that Thor dropped that “Asgardians of the Galaxy” reference at the end of “Avengers: Endgame.”
Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Endgame" made an estimated $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office for its opening, according to Disney(DIS). It is the only film in history to cross the $1 billion mark for its debut.
It broke the previous record by hundreds of millions of dollars. Its prequel "Avengers: Infinity War" formerly held the record making $640 million for its opening last year.
The film, which started rolling out internationally on Wednesday, took just 5 days to cross $1 billion.
"Endgame" also shattered the opening record in North America. The film, which stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, brought in an estimated $350million domestically this weekend. That makes it the biggest opening weekend ever, blowing away the previous domestic record of $258 million that "Infinity War" made.
The Marvel film somehow exceeded its own huge expectations. Analysts predicted last week that the film could make anywhere from $260 million to $300 million domestically.
The film grossed an estimated $859 million overseas. That crushes the record for the biggest opening weekend internationally, which was held by 2017's "The Fate of the Furious."
The film's global domination was propelled by China. "Endgame" made $330.5 million there, which is the highest-grossing debut ever in China.
"We're watching a monumental moment in the history of cinema unfold -- one that the entire world is experiencing together," said Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Boxoffice.com.
Robbins added that the film is the "pay off Disney and Marvel have been promising" over its last decade of blockbuster films.
Marvel Studios has made nearly $20 billion at the worldwide box office over the last 10 years.
"Though 'Endgame' is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement, and this weekend's monumental success is a testament to the world they've envisioned," Alan Horn, Walt Disney Studios' chairman, said in a statement.
Paul Dergarabedian, senior analyst at Comscore(SCOR), said that "Endgame" signals a "momentous end of an era" but now opens the door for "a new and exciting chapter for the future of the Marvel brand."
"This will extend to the small screen as well with Disney + on the horizon," Dergarabedian said. "We will likely see a lot of synergy between the big and small screen."
"Endgame" was also a huge hit with critics.
The film, which clocks in at roughly three hours, has garnered acclaim from critics and moviegoers. It holds a 96% score on review site, Rotten Tomatoes and an A+ CinemaScore.
"Endgame" became a cinematic event with thousands of sell outs and movie theater chains running around the clock adding showtimes to meet the demand of moviegoers.
Will we ever see a film reach these box office heights again?
"It could be awhile, but never say never," Robbins said. "Records are made to be broken, but no one in their right mind can argue there's been one more impressive than this."

Arnold Schwarzenegger's son is saying "Hasta la vista, baby"to college with his proud dad by his side.
The "Terminator" star, 71, sent a congratulatory tweet to Joseph Baena, 21, after his youngest child graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, on Saturday.
"Congratulations Joseph!" Schwarzenegger wrote. "Four years of hard work studying business at Pepperdine and today is your big day! You have earned all of the celebration and I’m so proud of you. I love you!"
The tweet included a picture of a smiling Schwarzenegger embracing an equally beaming Baena, who was dressed in his blue and orange cap and gown.

Baena also shared a picture with his dad on Instagram, writing, "Some of the best times of my life are because of this school and the people in these pictures."
"I’m am so incredibly greatful (sic) to have the privilege to study at and graduate from such a beautiful and high caliber school. I now have my degree in business administration and with that, I believe this is only the beginning of a new road. Let’s see where it takes us!" he added.

Baena is Schwarzenegger's son with his former housekeeper Mildred Baena, with whom he had an affair. Mildred also attended Baena's graduation.
Schwarzenegger has four other children with his estranged wife, Maria Shriver, including Katherine Schwarzenegger, 29, who is engaged to "Avengers" actor Chris Pratt.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 3" has had a dramatic journey, and it's not even close to being in theaters.
James Gunn, who directed the first two installments, was fired by Disney in July after offensive tweets from years ago resurfaced, resulting in "Guardians 3," which was originally scheduled to be released next year, being postponed.
Then Warner Bros. hired Gunn to write and direct a "Suicide Squad" sequel in October. Last month, Disney rehired Gunn for "Guardians 3," but he'll finish "The Suicide Squad" first, meaning it will be a few years before we see the Guardians return ("The Suicide Squad" comes to theaters in 2021).
After "Endgame," we know a little bit more about what "Guardians 3" could be about, and it's quite unexpected. Thor relinquishes leadership of the Earth-based "New Asgard" to Valkyrie (the original Asgard was destroyed in "Thor: Ragnarok"), and joins up with the Guardians at the end of the movie, implying Thor actor Chris Hemsworth is not only sticking around the MCU, but could even star in "Guardians 3."
He's one of the original Avengers to come out of "Endgame" unscarred, while other veteran franchise actors like Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America) are phased out.
During this scene, Star-Lord is looking at a screen with Gamora's face on it and the word "searching." Gamora died in "Avengers: Infinity War," but a Gamora from the past is brought into the present due to some time-travel wizardry. There's a good chance "Guardians 3" will be about this search for Gamora.
Prince Charles may be next in line to the throne after Queen Elizabeth II, but rumors have been running wild that Prince William will actually be the next King of England. In the event that Williams gets the throne, Kate Middleton has been slowing preparing for her new role as Queen Kate.

Kate Makes First Solo Appearance With Her Majesty
Last month, Kate had her first solo appearance with Queen Elizabeth. The duo visited King’s College in an event that was designed to prepare Kate for her duties alongside Prince William. The outing was the first of its kind for the pair, but it clearly shows that Queen Elizabeth is taking Kate under her wing.
According to US Weekly, royal experts, such as Rebecca Long, believe that the majority of people in the UK want to see William on the throne over Charles. That does not mean Charles will abdicate his place at the head of the table, but it could prompt the family to move in a new direction.
“William and Kate are the favorite royals to take the crown
in many generations, so the people of the U.K. are very excited about it,”
Long shared.
Apart from their recent solo outing, Her Majesty has been spending more one-on-one time with the Duchess of Cambridge. Inside sources claim that Elizabeth and Kate often spend time together discussing where the monarchy is headed and the ins and outs of royal life. The lessons are undoubtedly valuable to Kate, despite that she will likely run things differently.
Are William And Kate Already Preparing For A Major Power Move?
It takes a large team to run the royal family’s household, and
William and Kate are already putting together a top-notch squad of staffers,
many of whom have experience in government. This includes the hiring of a new
PR manager in Sarah Latham, who previously worked in the White House during
Bill Clinton’s administration.
There’s also the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving out of Kensington Palace and setting up shop in Windsor. The move gives them more space for their growing family, but it also makes room for William and Kate’s expanded role.
William recently stepped down from his job as a pilot for an air ambulance crew in order to focus all of his efforts at Kensington Palace. The timing of the move means that William is preparing to become king, just like his father. Even if Charles takes the throne, he will not have the crown for long. With Charles pushing 70 years old, there is a good chance that William will become king within 20 years.
What Are The Chances That William Is Named King Over Charles?
The fact that Queen Elizabeth has already named Charles as her heir means it is unlikely that her oldest son will abdicate. That said, polls show that William and Kate have a lot of support from the people.
According to International Business Times, some 46 percent of the population in the UK would like to see Charles give up the crown. Another 27 percent want Queen Elizabeth to skip Charles altogether and give the reigns to his oldest child.
The only problem with Charles abdicating is that he has been
waiting to become king for such a long time. Although Elizabeth is getting up
there in age, she is still in great health and will likely remain on the throne
for a few more years at the least. If that happens, Charles will have to wait
even longer to claim his birth right, which means he is unlikely to give it up
without a fight.
William Wants To Inherit The Crown When The Timing Is Right
With his father prepared to take the throne, royal watchers
believe that William does not want to sit on the throne before his time.
Instead, William would reportedly rather wait until he is older and wiser, just
like his father. Given all the pressures of being king, this is probably a good
decision.
While this is hardly the first time that Tristan has been caught cheating, the fact that he chose to do it with someone that was a close family friend took his ordinary acts of betrayal to a whole new level.
Although Khloe probably wishes that she could go the rest of her life without ever seeing Tristan again, that is probably not going to be possible, given the fact they share a daughter together.
So, how long will it take for Khloe’s heartbreak to healing and will it take longer to get over him because she will have to see him regularly? While there is no way to give an answer to this question with 100 percent accuracy, we can take a look at their current interactions with each other to get a good idea of when Khloe will be able to get over Tristan.
Khloe still feels uncomfortable around Tristan
On April 14, Khloe’s daughter, True, celebrated her first birthday. The 34-year-old Keeping up with the Kardashians star went all out for the special occasion. The venue was decorated with giant pastel-colored balloons, there was a fog machine at the entrance to make the guest feel as if they were clouds, and the cake was decorated with a simple white frosting and colorful butterflies.
All of Khloe’s close friends and family came to True’s birthday party. One person that many were surprised to see had made the guest list was True’s father, Tristan Thompson. Although True and Tristan were able to spend some quality time together at the party, there was still some awkward moments that were witnessed by other partygoers whenever Tristan and Khloe were seen together.
One video that Khloe had uploaded to her Instagram stories showed what looked like Tristan trying to take True out of Khloe’s arms so that he could hold her for a while. Instead of causing a scene and telling Tristan to go away, Khloe can be seen ignoring him and then turning away from him completely, while still holding onto to True, to talk to a little girl about the flavor of the cake.
A source that was at the party told Hollywood Lifethat Khloe really doesn’t want to be anywhere near Tristan, but she is trying to be civil with him for the sake of their daughter. “There are still so many raw emotions going through Khloe’s mind that if they were at a regular party and True wasn’t there then Khloe would have wanted to get out of there even faster,” the source revealed. “But since it was all for True, it made it a little easier.”
How long before Khloe gets over Tristan completely?
When Khloe loves someone, she loves them with everything she has. This makes it extremely hard for her to get over a breakup. However, if her past relationships are any indication, it looks like she will finally get over Tristan for good once she meets a new man.
One of her longest relationships was with ex-husband Lamar Odom. The two had only dated for about a month before getting married in 2009. However, due to his reckless behavior and substance abuse problems, Khloe had filed for divorce in 2013. Their divorce was not finalized until 2016.
During that three-year period, Khloe had dated two other men: hip-hop artist, French Montana, and basketball star James Harden. Both of those relationships ended before her divorce in 2016. Shortly after she was officially divorced, she met Tristan Thompson. For Khloe, it seems as if finding new love is the only way for her to get over an old love.
Now that she has a daughter to take care of, she will probably take her time finding a new romance. Just by looking at her Instagram stories, we can see that her daughter, family, and close friends are helping her keep her sanity during this difficult time.
Because she has so many wonderful people in her life right now to help lift her spirits and make her feel loved, she may not need to find a new romance in order to get over Tristan.
Marvel fans have spent an entire year trying to predict what might happen in Avengers:Endgame. Between the endless rumors, on-set photos, merchandise leaks, and everything else the MCU-obsessed internet dug up during the film's production, many central theories for the epic finale started to emerge. Not all of them came to fruition (no, Ant-Man did not kill Thanos by becoming small and shooting up his ass). But, many of the prominent theories that Mind Stone-wielding fans came up with actually came true in Endgame. In fact, some of the most surprising, risky predictions paid off in a big way.
Here are all the fan theories that actually came true in Endgame. Warning, massive spoilers ahead!!
Professor Hulk
Hell yeah. Say what you will about the MCU, but after films like Guardians and Thor: Ragnarok, Kevin Feige and Co. have not been afraid to go full weird. And in a beige, cookie-cutter blockbuster movie culture, that is really something to respect. One of Endgame's biggest weirdo elements is the new physical state of Bruce Banner. As many fans predicted, The Russo Brothers ended up adopting the "Professor Hulk" storyline for the big Infinity War sequel, wherein Bruce Banner and the Hulk finally put their differences aside and become one. The result? Mark Ruffalo is fucking huge. And green. And weirdly hot? He's got the body of the Hulk with the mind of Bruce Banner. This lasts for pretty much the entire film, making some parts of this moviegoing experience feel almost like a fever dream.
Time travel
Ever since some very revealing set photos leaked early-on in the production of Endgame, fans have been theorizing that time travel is pretty much a given for the new movie. I mean, how else are they going to reverse all the horrible things that Thanos committed? This theory has been the most prominent prediction. And, lo and behold, the fans were right. Endgame is a full-on Time Heist. Wreaking havoc on the past 22 films from the storied MCU, our Avengers are hopping through time and really screwing everything up. The plot holes are pretty tough to navigate, but on the surface, Endgame's quantum mechanics are fun as hell. We even got to see Tilda Swinton!
As fans predicted, Captain America is worthy to wield Thor’s hammer.
Marvel
Captain America wielding Thor's hammer
This one is less a prediction and more just something the fans have been begging for ever since the Avengers all met up back in 2012. We've seen Steve Rogers try to pick up the hammer. He nudged it a bit in Age of Ultron. But Endgame finally gives us the real deal. Cap is whooping ass with Mjolnir, bashing Thanos' huge face with it, and even spinning it around to take flight. As Inverse reported back in 2018, fans even asked Joss Whedon about the scene in Ultron when Cap attempted to lift the hammer. Whedon responded, "Did he fail? Or did he stop?" Turns out, the answer may have been the latter.
Thanos removes his armor to reveal his large body and get beheaded by Thor.

Thanos gets defeated in the first act
As predicted on the r/FanTheories Subreddit, the Big Purple Man does indeed get killed very early on in Endgame. Eagle-eyed watchers of the film's trailers noticed, mostly from the different lengths (and colors) of Black Widow's hair, that there may be some time-jumping afoot in the big finale. They figured that Grimace might get killed within the opening 20 minutes of the film, but that killing him does not reverse the events of Infinity War, thus leaving the universe in pretty bad shape. They were right. Thanos gets his huge head chopped right off within the first act of the film, which only leaves the Avengers with more questions, and less hope. It's a mistake that makes Thor exile himself to drinking beer and playing Fortnite, ultimately resulting in the whole squad giving up on fixing the consequences of the Snap. That is, until our buddy Ant-Man comes along.
Tony Stark dies
Ever since the MCU kicked off way back in 2008, fans have been waiting to see how Tony Stark's narrative arc will come to a close. Over the course of the 22 films since, the topic has come to the surface a few times. He nearly died in the first Avengers, and with Robert Downey Jr.'s contract coming to a close, it seemed inevitable that Iron Man would die in Endgame. And it was. Stark sacrificed himself to gain control of the Infinity Stones and snap his fingers to reverse the course of history, but sealed his fate in the process. Everybody has been saying, it's either going to be Tony or Steve (or both) dying in the war against Thanos, and it turns out, Tony is the one to go. It's only natural that this would be RDJ's last outing as the character, since it's the end of the story he started so many years ago.
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Captain America gives his shield to Falcon, presumably making him the new Captain America.
Marvel
Falcon becomes the new Captain America
In the comics, there is a huge precedent for other heroes picking up the mantle of Captain America. Many have held the shield over the years. In the MCU, it seemed that the two biggest possibilities for a new Cap would be Anthony Mackie's Falcon, or Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes. Fans have theorized ever since Stan held the shield back in the first Captain America movie that the so-called Winter Soldier would become the Star Spangled Man. But there was always the chance that we would have a Falcon Cap, and in the Endgame, it was Sam Wilson who gained control of the red, white, and blue shield.
Pepper Potts suits up
This theory has been floating around for a while, ever since a leaked selfie surfaced showing Gweneth Paltrow wearing an Iron Man suit. Pepper has suited up as "Rescue" in the comics before, and she briefly wore a suit in Iron Man 3 as well. In Endgame, we get Pepper fully armored, going haywire in the big splash-page battle of the film's finale. So the leaked image was real after all.
As many fans predicted, Doctor Strange did set in motion the one outcome he saw in which the Avengers beat Thanos.
Marvel
Doctor Strange knew there was only one way to win against Thanos
At the end of Infinity War, Doctor Strange looked at all the possible outcomes of Thanos' attack on The Avengers. He saw millions of possibilities, and said there was only one of them where they came out victorious. Well, fans have been banking on Endgame being the film where Dr. Strange's one winning outcome actually comes to fruition. And it did (of course). When Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange finally arrives back on the scene from his untimely dusting, he raises one finger to Stark, seeming to indicate that this is the only possible way for Earth (and half the universe) to prevail. But, of course, this would cost Tony Stark everything, as he snaps his fingers and ends his own life in the process. Destiny arrives.
Steve Rogers goes on to live his dream life with Peggy
This is the most exciting of the bunch, because it's one of the most out-there theories that actually came true. Once time travel became heavily hinted for the new film, fans believed that Captain America may choose to stay in the past, and finally have that fabled dance with his old flame, Peggy Carter. It actually came true! In the finale of the film, Steve says he is going to shoot back in time to return all the Infinity Stones, but he never comes back–kind of. The gang turns to find Captain America, as an old man, sitting on a bench, wistfully. He's lived his life the way he always wanted, by staying back in the '40s and reuniting with Peggy. How quaint. No word on what happened to the frozen version of himself in that timeline...
